Steven Jenkins is an illustrator, print maker, potter, teacher and author whose studio is just over the hills from us in Frome, Somerset.
For this autumn and winter Steven's turned his brush to a seasonal pair of designs, intended to reflect land and sea in the chilly months.
The Oak & Acorn feel fitting, seeing as many oak trees have been absolutely laden with acorns this year. The Bladder Wrack Seaweed is inspired by long walks on the beach after a storm has rolled in - casting drifts of pretty seaweeds on the shore.
Each piece is fired once before being decorated with a chunky acorn and a pretty oak leaf, and is then fired again. The resulting little pots are full of life and charm. Steven's work is slab-built from terracotta clay before he paints on his beautifully characterful designs in a soft, sepia-toned brown slip. The inside of the Oak & Acorn pot is a blushing pink and the Bladder Wrack is a blue.
Once they reach us, we add a striking sticker to the base of each pot and then fill them with extra-long safety matches with white tips. Once you've used all the matches you can refill your pot here. Your pot will contain approximately 125 extra-long safety matches.
