Last year, we had a little idea that turned into something much bigger than we anticipated.
Using leftover soy wax and wick trimmings from our candle workshop, we started making handmade pinecone firelighters. We thought they would be a fun seasonal addition to the shop.
Instead, you bought hundreds of bags!
In an effort to get ahead, we'll be spending some of the late summer season making pinecone firelighters to get for Christmas, but we need your help gathering the main ingredient.
The Great Pinecone Collection
From now until 31st July, we're inviting you lovely people to collect pinecones and bring them to our workshop.
For every 1kg of accepted pinecones, we'll give you £2.50 in store credit to spend on anything in the shop.
Please read the requirements before you start collecting. The most important one is size. We can only use pinecones that measure between 3cm and 5cm in diameter. Unfortunately, any larger than this and we won't be able to accept them.
Quick Checklist
✔ Between 3cm and 5cm in diameter
✔ Dry and clean
✔ Naturally fallen pinecones only
✔ Collected with the landowner's permission where required
✔ Maximum 10kg per person
✔ Bring them in before 31st July

What we're looking for
To be suitable for making our firelighters, pinecones should be:
- Between 3cm and 5cm in diameter
- Dry
- Clean and reasonably free from soil, stones and other debris
- Free from mould or rot
- Free from paint, glitter, artificial snow, chemicals or any other treatments
We'll inspect all pinecones when you bring them in. We may accept or decline all or part of a collection depending on its condition and whether the cones meet our size requirements.

Please Collect Responsibly
We love that this project helps make use of a natural resource, but we also want to protect the places we all enjoy.
Please only collect pinecones:
- From your own land, or land where you have the landowner's permission
- From places where collecting is permitted
- After they have naturally fallen from the tree
- Responsibly, leaving plenty behind for wildlife and natural regeneration
By bringing pinecones to us, you confirm that they were collected legally and with any necessary permission.
How the Store Credit Works
- £2.50 store credit is issued for every accepted kilogram of pinecones.
- Weight will be determined using our workshop scales.
- Store credit is issued as a voucher and cannot be exchanged for cash. Credit notes will expire on 31.12.26.
- Maximum of 10kg per person during the promotion.
- The promotion runs until 31st July, or until we reach our storage capacity.
- We reserve the right to refuse any pinecones that do not meet our criteria.
Where to bring them
Please bring your collected pinecones to our Workshop address between 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday:
Studio 1, Rear of 3 High Street
Toby's Court
Shaftesbury
SP7 8NA
We recommend parking in the Bell Street car park and walking into Toby's Court (behind JOT Flooring). Look for the wooden stairs and olive tree - you'll see our workshop door.
The team will check and weigh the cones and then issue your store credit voucher!
