Steven Jenkins is an illustrator, print maker, potter, teacher and author whose studio is just over the hills from us in Frome, Somerset. A regular visitor to the shop, we were thrilled when Steven asked whether we'd carry some of his work.
Over the years, Steven has build an extensive portfolio of free-flowing, characterful illustrations. Rambling vines, garden creatures, seed heads and homely scenes adorn Steven's pieces. We faced the tricky job of choosing a few elements to feature on these match pots, and happily settled on The Hogweed and Dove.
These tactile match pots are built in stoneware clay by Steven, using the slab technique, with the join left intentionally pronounced. Each piece is fired once before being decorated with either a pair of seed heads or a dove in flight, and then fired again. The resulting little pots are full of life and charm.
Once they reach us, we add a striking sticker to the base of each pot and then fill them with extra-long safety matches with white tips. Once you've used all the matches you can refill your pot here.
