So What's *Really* so Great About Soy Wax? \\ Soy Wax Candles vs Paraffin Wax

There's A LOT of information out there about the benefits of soy wax candles vs paraffin wax and frankly, it can all be a little overwhelming. We're going to keep it simple and run you through some of our favourite reasons for using soy wax as well as the benefits it brings to your home and your health.

Soy Wax Candles vs Paraffin

The Botanical Candle Company began as a little acorn of an idea after a very well known {and c-r-a-z-y expensive} brand of candle 'sooted' whilst burning in our living room. The resulting mess ruined the paint on the chimney breast and ceiling and meant the entire room needed re-decorating. The oily black marks were also a stark reminder of what you breathe in when burning traditional paraffin wax candles in your home.

So, keen to save some pennies and for health reasons we decided to investigate soy wax to see if we could make our own scented candles. We were so pleased with our first batch we carried on and over time The Botanical Candle Company developed in to what it is today.

So what are the benefits of soy wax?

  • Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. Our wax comes from crops grown in the USA and is an entirely natural product that's safe for your skin and respiratory system.
  • Soy is a renewable source unlike paraffin wax which relies in our dwindling supply of crude oil.
  • Soy wax is a carbon neutral product, meaning you can enjoy your candle knowing it hasn't had a negative impact on the enviornment.
  • Soy wax burns on average 40-50% slower than paraffin wax, resulting in long-lasting candles and giving you better value for money.
  • Soy washes away with warm soapy water making it easy to repurpose your vessel once the candle has burned down. No more soaking with boiling water and chipping away at residual wax.
  • Soy wax is clean burning and doesn't release toxins, carcinogens or pollutants which means it's less likely to trigger allergies.
  • Soy wax won't release petrol-carbon soot like you get from paraffin candles meaning no oily black marks on your walls. Keeping the wick trimmed short will also ensure that the candle doesn't smoke.

So there you have it! Soy wax really is an all-round wonder product that offers reliable burning whilst keeping your environment free from harmful chemicals.
